To my understanding, one has to setup a plugin to override default translations in a single-language setup (which isn’t the documented usage). This allows to fine-tune a bit more the Kirby Panel to one’s use-case.
Having the ability to do this from config file would bring a little bit more clarity to this. Also see this issue in the forum.
I agree that this would be useful in general. If I remember correctly, @Nico has already experimented with such a feature recently.
In this particular case, you can place a file in site/templates/emails/auth/password-reset.php
instead and don’t need to change the translation text. :)

thanks for bringing up this idea here. I am currently seeking for a similar solution. As in our case the email subject needs to be changed too i am wondering if you made any progress here?
