Setting the focus on a image, would be a great addition to the actual image-field. This is a recommended feature on nearly every project and it would be great to get the job done out of the box, without any plugins.
So flokosiol’s plugin should be a core feature, right?
@S1SYPHOS I dont want to mention any specific plugin. There are several good Plugins out there :-)
Didn’t know that, alright! Thanks for clarifying, Manuel!

I don’t feel like this should be in core. It’s not essential and it works great on project per project basis. There are so many ways how to cropping. Also some of the image libraries / drivers do pretty good automatic focus on subject which are probably good for most things.
It’s easy enough to put a ‘select’ field in the image blueprint, which gives the client ‘focus’ choices. What we don’t have, tho, is a setting that respects that in the panel when it shows the image - for example, the client selects “bottom right” for ‘focus’, but the image is shown in the panel always cropped center.
Every site uses this feature somewhere - but not everywhere (not for every image). I don’t think it should be the default. Having it as a plugin, or just putting a ‘crop’ select field in the file blueprint is enough, and keeps the bloat off the core.
The image in the file view would not be clickable (to open the actual file) anymore - would it? (genuinely asking, I’d like to arrive with an understanding of the UI/UX that most of the involved here feel good with)
I also think that the focus should be directly in the thumb above and saved in the textfile of the image. That you then can not open the image with one click, I think is not bad. For this you could insert in the dropdown the item “Open image” or “Download” as in my 2nd screenshot.
I’m with Oliver on this one; not being able to open with a click is totally manageable , besides: how many times did I click on it and DID NOT want to open / then had to close the image ;)
Also agree with having the ui directly on the image. This also keeps the overall view pretty much the same
@Nico I would agree with the latest replies. On the detail page of an image the focus could be directly on the preview at the top of the screen. An link to file could be added to the meta information on the right. Like @S1SYPHOS I usually click on the image only by accident :) There could be an option in the file blueprint to de-/activate the focus.
EDIT: Just saw, that there’s already the url info on the right side of the image preview and it is clickable. So no need for an additional link.
In progress! Thank you ❤️😍
